A Day in Champagne-the wine of celebration


We cross Paris by the eastern districts as far as Porte de Bercy and then take the eastern motorway where we make a stop for a break (refreshments are at client's own charge) before arriving in Reims around 10.00 AM. Our visit includes a guided visit of the Gothic cathedral and an orientation tour of the city. Guided visit of the Mumm cellars with the famous "Cordon Rouge" tasting. Lunch on your own in the centre of Reims. In the afternoon, we drive to Epernay passing by la Montagne de Reims for a guided visit of the Moët & Chandon cellars (or Achille Mercier) and wine tasting. We leave Epernay at 4.00 PM and return to Paris around 6.30 PM.

We cross the western districts of Paris and take the Normandy motorway as far as Caen (arrival around 10.15 AM). We stop at the Caen Memorial museum (known as the Peace Museum) for a commented visit and film followed by lunch. After lunch we depart for the landing beaches with a stop at both the Pointe du Hoc and the American cemetery Saint-Laurent at Omaha Beach for 1 hour. We make a stop at Arromanches. Continue to the close vicinity of the Canadian Memorial of Juno Beach (short photo stop). Return to Paris : 9.00 PM.

Normandy motorway to reach the Mont Saint Michel bay. New! From April 2011 - A stop in a Norman village + free time. After leaving the Southern highway, we reach the Serein valley at Chablis, surrounded by vineyards: visit to a local cellar and taste the white wine, one of the world's best. Lunch in the "Bistrot des grands crus" (or similar) –drinks not included. Continue to Vézelay, the "eternal hill", village classified by UNESCO as one of its cultural world heritage sites: guided-visit to the basilica dedicated to Saint Mary Madeleine, centre of Romanesque architecture and sculpture, and which still keeps some relics of the saint. Free time to browse around the village and maybe to taste some other Burgundy red wines before returning to Paris.

Saturday :
We begin by crossing the southern districts of Paris to take the Aquitaine motorway. A guided visit of the Amboise Castle overlooking the Loire river offers an excellent introduction to the history of the region. Free time will be allocated for lunch. Our afternoon continues with a guided visit of the Clos-Lucé, Leonardo da Vinci 's last dwelling and the gardens of Villandry. Then visit to the old historic districts of Tours. Dinner and accommodation at the Mercure Tours Nord hotel (or similar).
Sunday :
Departure for Chenonceau for a guided visit of the castle. We continue our morning with a guided visit of the Château de Cheverny followed by lunch at the Hotel Saint-Hubert (regional restaurant of rustic style). Our stay in the Loire Valley ends with a guided visit of the royal Château de Chambord. We leave around 4.30 PM and return to Paris around 7.00 PM.

Friday :
We cross the western districts of Paris and take the Normandy motorway as far as Mont Saint Michel. Around 12.00 Am, lunch at the Relais Saint Michel facing the monument (drinks included). We begin our afternoon by ascending the monument as far as the Abbey is located on the top of the mount. Guided visit of the Abbey interior, the gothic "Marvel", and the romanesque areas followed by free time for exploring the gothic parts of the mount and the village, until 04.30 PM. Departure for Angers. Dinner and overnight stop at the Hotel Mercure Lac de Maine (or similar).
Saturday :
Departure with short stop at the Château d'Angers after your breakfast. Departure for Langeais passing by Cunault and Saumur (this route is likely to change). Guided visit of the Château of Langeais followed by free time for lunch in Amboise. In the afternoon, we continue with a guided visit of the Château de Chenonceau. Then, you will visit to the Loire Valley ends with a guided visit of the Château de Chambord* (the largest and most imposing Royal residence) surrounded by an immense park. We leave Chambord and return to Paris around 09.00 PM.
*In October, the visit to Chambord is replaced by the one to Cheverny.
